Overview

When most people think of Wyoming, or "The West", they think of rodeos, cowboys, horses, and other similar events that invoke images we've all seen on TV. Yes, there are rodeos in Wyoming, from the "Granddaddy of Them All"© Cheyenne Frontier Days, to more hometown events, like the Summer Rodeos in Pine Bluffs. But there are also art shows, ice fishing derbies, and music festivals, which celebrate both the region's past and present. The Tracks Across Wyoming corridor is home to many entrepreneurs and artisans, and their work is showcased with many festivals and shows, such as the Centennial Valley Art Show, held at the Nici Self Historical Museum. Many events celebrate the history of the area and reenact episodes from area history - and also offer great food and entertainment. Most events occur during the summer because of the harsh Wyoming winters, but some, like Green River's Ice Crystal Classic, even celebrate that season. Take in one of the small town events, and you'll discover everyone in town is there and has helped put on the event in some way. Take time to meet these people, and you'll discover why they're "Wyoming Proud."

The Lincoln Highway Centennial

The Lincoln Highway will celebrate its 100th Anniversary in 2013. The event will be centered on two organized caravans of antique (as well as modern) automobiles. The first will travel west from Times Square in New York City and the second will travel east from Lincoln Park in San Francisco. The two caravans will meet in Kearney, Nebraska on the July 4th weekend at the Archway Monument, the mid-point on the 3,200-mile Lincoln Highway system. Kearney will also be hosting the annual national conference of the modern Lincoln Highway Association. Anyone interested in joining one of the convoys, or in coordinating local Lincoln Highway Centennial celebrations with the convoy schedules, should access the Lincoln Highway Association's web site to locate contacts and details.
